12. Sundays Excepted – Constitution, Article I, Section 7, Paragraph (2)

In regard to Presidential veto power, the President has ten days (Sundays excepted) to sign or veto a bill.  Read Exodus 20:8-10.  The Framers believed in keeping the Sabbath or Sunday as a day of worship so no work was done on Sundays. Therefore, Sunday was not counted in the ten day rule regarding the veto or passing of a bill.  The states all honored this in their laws also. Sunday was a day of rest and worship.

13. Separation of Church and State – Constitution, First Amendment

Old Testament scripture tells us that God was the supreme ruler of Israel and all authority is derived from Him.  However, it also makes it clear that the kings were not to perform the function of a priest.  In other words, the kings were not to touch the church. (1 Sam. 13; 2 Chronicles 26:16-21)  In Luke 20:25, Christ also recognized two kingdoms, the church and the state.  Each derives its authority from God.  The First Amendment religious clause simply says the federal government was to keep its hands off the church and not establish a national church such as The Church of England.

“Separation of Church and State” is not in our Constitution.  It was a phrase used by Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists reassuring them that the state would not interfere with the church.  The founding fathers felt it was vital for the federal government to “encourage religion”, and not block its effects on the people.  The trend today of stripping this country of everything in public view that is Judeo-Christian is not in keeping with the intent of the First Amendment.  It is an attempt to re-write our history and heritage removing everything Christian that helped create this great nation.  The phrase “Separation of Church and State” is however found in the Communist manifesto.

It is sad that the people of the United States are so ignorant of the founding documents of this nation.  If we knew what was in the Declaration and the Constitution we would not fall for the lies of those who wish to rewrite and strip our Constitution of the right of free exercise of religion.  The First Amendment guarantees the state will not interfere with churches and the free exercise of religion in our daily lives where ever we are.

The Framers clearly followed Isaiah 33:22 in formulating the separate branches of government.  This occurred only after Benjamin Franklin called them to prayer because they had looked at and discussed every type of government that had existed until that time and found fault with them all.  As we have seen the law of God is and has been the very foundation of most of our laws. It is His law that protects both individuals and the society as a whole.

The only way that government can override these principles is to remove God from society.  The first step to doing that was by speaking of these two documents as totally separate and distinct documents that had no connection to each other.  But as we have seen they are divinely tied together and cannot be separated without dire consequences.

Unfortunately, the majority has been led to believe the lie and America is now suffering the dire consequences that removing God from society brings.
